No One Left…

First they came for the drugs, and I didn’t care because I don’t use drugs.

Then they came for the raw milk and I did not speak out because I am squeamish about very low levels of risk.

Then they came for the sporting guns that are no more powerful or dangerous than any modern hunting rifle and I did not speak out because guns are scary and complicated, and I don’t like to think.

Then they came for the health insurance we had and forced us to buy worse insurance for more money, and I did not speak out because It was really hard to think clearly while waiting a month to get the medicines that help keep me sane and able to focus due to government overreach and corporate greed.

Then they came for the provisions of the ACA where the government pays for anything and left the rest of the “you have to buy” stuff right where it was, and I did not speak out, because I wasn’t sick just then.

Then they came for the private data which companies needed to squeeze every last cent out of us and I did not speak out because convenience is so… convenient.

Then they came for the websites you could use without handing over a government ID, and I did not speak out because I couldn’t log on any more.

Then they came for the ability to post your thoughts online safely and anonymously and I did not speak out because I was looking at TikToks.

Then they came for the pedophiles and “fraudsters”, and I did not speak out because the power and influence of the corporations had everyone calling everyone else a pedophile or a fraudster, and I didn’t want to be accused of being a pedophile or a fraudster.

Then they came for the 3D printers, and I did not speak out because I was busy 3-D printing a gun with the machines that it’s *clearly* not possible to regulate the way they want to.

Then they came for all pretenses of corporations and governments actually following the laws and regulations they impose on us and I did not speak out because the corporations and governments control the media, so no one would hear me anyway.

Then they came for me because bad AI flagged me as some kind of uber-criminal and while there were plenty of people left to speak out for me, they were all snapchatting or making love to their AI agents, and didn’t notice.
